A farmer from Solapur in Maharashtra took a deep blow at the time he discovered that he has earned a profit of Rs 2.49 against the sale of 512 kg of onions to a merchant in the district.
Farmers living at the Barshi Tehsil of Solapur, 63-year-old Rajendra Chavan said that their onion yield found at a price of Rs 1 per kilogram in Solapur market yard and after all deductions they received this nominal amount as a net profit.
Speaking to PTI, Chewana said, "I had sent 10 bags onions of weight over five quintals for sale to an onion merchant in Solapur. I just got a net profit of Rs 2.49 after cutting charges for loading, transportation, Hammaly and others. ’
