The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a ₹111.5 crore proposal to set up the South Asia regional research centre of the International Potato Centre (CIP) in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The centre aims to boost food and nutrition security, farmer incomes, and job creation by enhancing productivity and value-addition in potato and sweet potato farming. Research will focus on seed production, pest control, sustainable practices, and farmer training.
