Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh said that the Government is committed and functional for sustainable development of Indian economy. Developing agro-related enterprises, including products storage and processing, bringing Indian agricultural products to the market and bringing India into a country with major economic powers in the world. Agriculture Minister said that the farmers in Srinagar were addressed.
Shri Singh said Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is also familiar with the important role of agriculture and the contribution to its economy. So they have created and auspicious of a lot of schemes for the welfare of farmers. The new schemes that have been launched over the past 03 years have been included in the Swayal Health Card, expansion in irrigation facilities, organic farming, national agricultural market (e-name), horticulture development, agricultural forestry, beekeeping, milk, fish and egg production as well as agricultural education etc. areas based on priority.
Shri Radha Mohan Singh said that Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji had dreamed of double the farmer’s income by 2022 in Bareilly in February 2016. For which they made new schemes not only the formula but also the necessary funds. The government worked on 5 key topics to increase agriculture yield and income of farmers by adopting effective strategies over the past 3 years that are the following:
- Producing Neem Coated Urea,
- Reduced agricultural production costs by promoting organic farming. The Government has reduced the value of Rs 2,500 of DAP and Rs 5,000 per ton of MoP. 3 days ago, GST was reduced from 12% to 5% on fertilizers on 01st July, 2017 which will lead to a huge decline in their values.
- Soil Health Card, Prime Minister Agriculture Irrigation Scheme to reduce production cost by implementing water and comparative agricultural development schemes to every farm.
- The Government has launched e-Nam to provide nationwide and transparent markets to farmers.
- Similarly, the government launched a number of programs on animal husbandry, milk production, horticulture, agricultural forestry, poultry, fisheries, beekeeping, tree on every merry.
Shri Singh said that food production in Jammu and Kashmir is less than the requirement to import about 7 lakh MT grains every year. It occurs mainly due to geographical and climatic conditions as only one crop is grown in most areas. Another reason for this is the smallest farm here. The State Government is making strong efforts to increase the production of food and other crops to reduce the difference of production and demand. He said that the state is meaningfully implementing several plans funded by the center to achieve this goal. Statistics show that during the last few years, J&K has achieved significant success in enhancing the production level of some important crops such as paddy, corn, vegetables and saffron.
The Union Minister of Agriculture stated that the Government of India had declared a special package of Rs 500 crore for rehabilitation and development of damaged horticulture sectors of Jammu and Kashmir on November 7, 2015, for which the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has introduced its scheme for 2016-19. The National Board of Horticulture has been assigned the task of establishing saffron park in Pulwama, pumpor at a total cost of Rs 24.55 crore. The park will feature quality control laboratory, export promotion activity and E-Auction Centre. The park is likely to begin by November, 2017. During the last two years (2015-16 and 2016-17), the state has acquired a number of notable achievements with the support of Hon’ble Chief Minister’s initiative and Union Sponsored Schemes.
