The conference of the food secretaries of the States under the chairmanship of Secretary Ms Preeti Sudan in the Department of Food and Public Distribution of the Government of India was held on the last days, with the prospects of wheat production and estimates of wheat procurement during the Rabi Marketing Season 2017-18. It was decided to buy 330 lakh MT of wheat at the meeting, which is significantly higher than 229.61 lakh MT of purchases made during the last season.
While the target of 85 lakh MT of wheat purchase has been fixed in M.P. The targets of wheat procurement in other wheat-producing states have been fixed. The highest in Punjab will be bought at 115 lakh MT and the lowest 50 thousand MT in Gujarat.
